50 Cent stopped at Hot 97 with Ebro in the Morning, co-hosted by Laura Stylez, to discuss his brand-new show For Life and what to expect for the Power series moving forward.
The interview started with Ebro asking 50 Cent if he’s updated or paying attention to what his friend Steve Stoute is doing with the Knicks: “Going out, how you think your friend Steve Stoute is doing with the Knicks? How you’ve been paying attention to this? He’s like in charge of rebranding the Knicks, his marketing agency.”
50 Cent interrupted, saying,
“He got some good young players on the team. I hope it comes around now.”
Then Ebro continued,
“Do people know your story with Steve Stoute from your first record deal days?”
“Yeah, Tommy, the Trackmasters—we worked together for a little bit, and then, um, he had… he did something. I see he ended up overrunning Interscope, and it was like when you came in the 550 building, the security guards had, like, his picture up, like not to let him in the building.
And this girl ended up being the president of Columbia Records because it was keeping them for production. I guess Tommy Mottola felt they doubted all the things that he was supporting. They developed the cool because he was managing the Trackmasters. He had Nas. It was all Columbia. It was all the things that they were financing may start cool enough to go get the job and pull the Ruff Ryders over to Interscope.”
“I didn’t know that part,”
Ebro commented.
Halfway into the interview, 50 Cent revealed that Floyd says he doesn’t know how they fell out:
“Floyd says he doesn’t know how we fell out or anything like it. I never anything to… like I just woke up one morning, and I had a problem with him, but that’s not what happened. What happened is we actually—he asked me to help him, so—and I actually could stop him from using TMT as their logo right now.”
“But you wouldn’t do that ’cause you’re cool again?”
Ebro asked 50 Cent.
“Yeah, I don’t have… I’m just not chasing it. But to be honest with you, I incorporated TMT in Delaware while he was incarcerated. ‘Cause he didn’t sign the paper doesn’t mean the corporation isn’t valid. So I could actually, technically, take the trademark to the term of it because the entire corporation is built on [that]. So I could tell you, you can’t have TMT socks, you can’t have that TMT T-shirt you got.
And you just won’t understand it ’cause you just not… I could say it, and you wouldn’t be able to figure out that I could do that.”
“Damn, this man, I thought y’all was cool again?”
Ebro asked 50 Cent.
“We are good. I just don’t understand why he having the conversation. How am I coming up in conversation? I don’t care about what they’re doing. So there’s still stuff.”
The feud between Mayweather and 50 Cent over TMT (The Money Team) is simply a story of friendship and business fallout.
50 Cent and Floyd were friends for many years and were simply seen out in public showcasing their flamboyant lifestyle, which gave birth to the brand TMT—a lifestyle brand and promotional company linked to Floyd Mayweather.
While Mayweather focused on his boxing career, 50 Cent took up some managerial roles for the brand by acquiring a license to promote fights under TMT Promotions. The idea was to set up a boxing promotion company.
However, they (50 Cent and Floyd) had a fallout when Floyd was locked up in 2012 for domestic violence. During his time in jail, 50 Cent tried taking the brand to a whole new level. But when Mayweather was released, they had a clash over decisions 50 Cent took for the brand without consulting or seeking his opinions about them, considering they both formed it.
This sparked a feud between the two friends, each throwing jabs at each other on the net, with 50 Cent being the savage that he is, mocking Floyd’s intellect in an Instagram post that went viral. He also claimed that Mayweather owed him $2 million for the time he was in jail, as he used his finances to run the brand.
Mayweather is known to have taken over the brand, but 50 Cent claims he incorporated TMT in Delaware while Floyd was in jail.
“’cause he didn’t sign any paperwork when claiming it doesn’t mean [the] corporation isn’t valid. So he can stop Floyd at any time from using it by simply [taking the] trademark to the term of it because it’s on that that the whole corporation is built.”
