I paid $750,000 so I could wake up whenever I wanted – Floyd Mayweather.
Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, hosted by Channing Crowder, Ryan Clark, and Fred Taylor, the retired American professional boxer, widely regarded as the greatest boxer of all time, shared some insights on the Logan Paul claims, his relationship with his children, his toughest opponent, and the legacy he’s built and is still building.
Mayweather, nicknamed “Money,” was one of the highest-paid boxers in the world due to his lucrative fights and business ventures.
Despite having that title and much influence, the boxer still felt captivated, so he bought himself out of Top Rank Promotions.
The company managed his career and fights but limited his earnings and control over fighting decisions. In 2006, he bought himself out of the contract and gained full control under his promotional company, Mayweather Promotions.
That decision served as a career breakthrough for the boxer, who controlled his earnings, thereby giving him the zeal and opportunity to invest in other businesses that contribute to his legacy and empire today.
Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, the former featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, and welterweight boxer was asked why he sleeps from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., then stays up all night running around the streets, and if he has always kept such funny hours.
The boxer responded:
“Remember we work hard to become our own boss, so we can do what we wanna do. The ultimate goal is to go to sleep when you want to and wake up when you want. See, when you don’t wake up when you want to, then guess what? Somebody’s controlling you, and I don’t wanna be controlled, ’cause I wanna be my own boss. That’s why I paid $750,000 to get out of my contract, and in 3 fights, I made $750 million.”
The boxer equally stated he works very hard so he can leave behind a legacy for his children, who will in return keep it for his grandchildren too, thereby building generational wealth. He equally said his father is his biggest motivation. When the world wanted to tear him apart, he couldn’t care less because he had to make his father proud.
