Da Baby reveals he lost 30 million dollars after he was canceled for his homophobic remarks.
In the summer of 2021, Da Baby made headlines at Rolling Loud Miami 2021’s final day on July 25, which featured big names like Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, and many others.
Da Baby made an appearance at the event right after Megan Thee Stallion and surprisingly, he brought Tory Lanez with him to the stage who had been accused by Meg the previous year of shooting her in the foot. As if that was not controversial enough, Da Baby made some homophobic comments during his performance. The Cleveland rapper stopped midway during his performance and sent a message to his detractors.
“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,”
he told attendees.
“Ladies, if your **** smells like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t su***ng **** in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”
While Da Baby received support from some of his fellow rappers like T.I. and Boosie Badazz, other celebrities like Madonna, Questlove, Elton John, and many others called out the rapper and labeled him ignorant. Many fans called on the hip-hop community to cancel the rapper with some fans even pressuring artists to take him out of their projects, and event organizers to remove him from shows.
During an interview with Big Boy TV, Da Baby revealed he lost between 20-30 million dollars from shows after he was canceled.
“There was $20 – 30 million that I would’ve had before the ball dropped in 2021,” he said. “So this was what happened. Rolling Loud was in July, I had $30 million worth of shows scheduled before December 21st. I was gonna buy my private plane, all that ****, I had it all mapped down like “Give me a jet, hell yeah”… But it is what it is. God didn’t want me to have my plane yet.”
Da Baby at first stood by his comments after fans started calling for his cancellation claiming fans who didn’t attend his show took his words out of context. He however issued a formal apology to the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV/AIDS on August 2nd, after several festivals had already started dropping him from their schedule.
