Fat Joe reveals Eminem was one of the rappers who convinced him not to retire after he started thinking about retirement.
Fat Joe is one of the oldest rappers in hip hop at the moment and has been doing it since 1992. He has eleven studio albums, two collaborative albums, and three mixtapes to his name.
Though he might not have many awards, to his name, there is no denying the fact that Joe is widely considered as one the greatest to ever hold a mic.
Guest on The Breakfast Club, Fat Joe revealed he considered retiring from Hip Hop this year because people who were deserving of awards were never given and rather, random people were winning them. Joe revealed it was only after Killer Mike won the Best Rap Album at the 2024 Grammys that he called Dr Dre and told him people who actually deserve the awards are finally winning it
“When Killer Mike won that Grammy, the next day I was in the studio with Dre and I was like ‘Yo! Dre you heard Killer Mike’s album’. He was like ‘Yeah I got a joint on there’. I’m like ‘Yo! Let’s get into the studio'”
He said,
“They finally gave them out to the right people.”
continued Fat Joe,
“I was like ‘Yo! Let’s get into the studio… let’s work ‘. So if it wasn’t for Killer Mike, I would have been all the way retired.”
Fat Joe revealed Eminem called him after he heard he had plans to retire and tried to convince him to reconsider his decision.
“Not like I get a call every day, I got a call from Eminem convincing me not to retire when I retired. He was like ‘Joe! You are one of the last ones left. You dope’. I was like ‘man I’m out of here’ with this”
You can’t blame Fat Joe because there are still some big names in Hip Hop that to date, no one knows how they’ve never won a Grammy award. Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Big Sean, Biggie, etc. are all big names that never won the Grammys but their legendary status in Hip Hop is unquestionable. Truly or any award is not the true measure of how great an artist is.
